Aikya trust has adopted one of the government schools in south Bangalore, to start LKG-UKG classes (pre-primary). We have entered into a formal agreement with the school and Block Education Office, Karnataka Education dept.
Background:
After surveying various government schools in South Bangalore (Jigani-Anekal area) we found that hundreds of underprivileged children are missing early childhood education due to lack of LKG-UKG classes in these schools. While there are many schools that need support to start pre-primary classes, we have decided to start our journey with GHPS-old Anekal school. Apart from introducing LKG-UKG in the school, we are also implementing activity-based learning for class I to class III (this is aligning with the growing importance to child-centred learning & activity based teaching in National Education Policy). We have recruited a few teachers; we will govern the execution & provide learning kits/books/academic guidance to the school. This year-long engagement is going to benefit 110 underprivileged kids in the age group 3 to 8
Expense Details (GHPS Old Anekal School)
- Teacher’s and Support Staff Salary: Rs. 3,15,000/- (total 10 months’ salary for 2 main teachers, 1 assistant teacher
- Activity Based Learning Material: Rs. 1,03,000/- (From Learner’s World, Jayanagar, Bangalore)
- Text Books: Rs. 18,000/- (From Hema Book World, JP Nagar, Bangalore)
- Phonics Books: Rs. 13,000/- (Online – Amazon buy)
- Material Storage Racks: Rs. 32,000/- (2 storage racks from Urban Furniture)
- Display Racks: Rs. 16,000/- (2 racks from Learner’s World)
- Stationary 30,000/- (Simple Geometry boxes – 100, 1000 note books – king size, two, four and single lines)
- Outdoor Play area setup for LKG-UKG (as physical and motor skill is one of the 6 developmental domain)
- Mats for LKG-UKG 10,000/- (Floor mats)
- Kids Baby Chair: Rs. 25,500/- (60 Nilkamal Eeezy Go Chair @425)
- Teacher’s Training: Rs. 35,000/- (Phonics and Numeracy Skills)
- Science Fest + Art Fest + Miscellaneous: Rs. 1,25,000/- (Science material, art material, charts, flash cards, pin up boards)

- 2 Class Rooms: Approx. Rs. 6-7 lakh per class room (approx. 16 X 21 Sq ft & 19 X 23 sq. ft, Currently, there is only 1 class room for LKG-UKG, 1 class for 4 & 5 grade. Activity room is also shared by Class 3 students)

- Support Staff Salary: Rs. 49,500/- (total 9 months’ salary for 1 aaya @5500/- per month)
- Teacher’s Salary: Rs. 45,000/- (supplementary 9 months’ salary for 2 teachers @2500/- per month per teacher)
